For this project, I wanted to continue exploring the relationship people have with their food, culture, and identity. Social Identity Theory was directly related to my topic of interest. It explains the reasons we group ourselves and others into different social categories, and the feelings we associate with our groups. Overall, I found it interesting to learn about the deconstruction of the cognitive processes. Since food is such a large part of our identity, the differences in what we eat can be related to the habits, behaviours, and preferences of the groups we identify with. For this project, instead of focusing on food identity in terms of nationality or ethnicity, I wanted to generalize the scope of identity through types of eaters.
